Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan Rugelach

Hello!

First I would like to thank each and every one of you for your Thanksgiving pie orders. We were truly honored to place your pie into your hands to bring to your holiday table. I know that the line was very long and we appreciate everyone’s patience and warm attitude. I was touched each time I saw someone turn to the person behind them in line to wish them a happy holiday or to start a convivial chat. The bakery had a small town village feel that gave great comfort after the upheaval of the last year and a half.

The bakery staff was able to take a quick holiday to rest weary minds and bodies before we go right back into the Hanukkah and Christmas holiday production. As a family who celebrates both holidays, we were able to get a Christmas tree and light the menorah this weekend. The kids and I ventured out in the pouring rain to a tree farm in Tualatin to choose and cut down a fine tree on Saturday. The next evening we sizzled two kinds of latkes -- a traditional potato as well as a shredded vegetable made with golden beets, red carrots, and sweet potatoes flecked with parsley and green onions. I made a large pot of bubbly honeyed applesauce while my oldest stood beside me candying Oro Blanco peels. Then we played a game of dreidel, lit the candles, and Stephen led a sing along of Hanukkah songs on his guitar.

Now we move right into Hanukkah and Christmas production. We were right back in the kitchen, mixing scones and muffin batters, encasing books of croissants and shaping, shaping, shaping hand pies and almond croissants. And we are starting to prepare some limited special holiday treats for you during the month. This week we have Coconut Macaroons -- my favorite Hanukkah treat with their crisp edges and their slight chew -- on the Weekend Menu.

And our special item this week will be a limited number of boxes of Rugelach, triangles of dough brushed with butter and sprinkled with rich toasted pecans, brown sugar and cinnamon then rolled into small crescents. Boxes will include 6 pieces each. Only for our loyal newsletter subscribers, so be sure to join our email list for access to all future Secret Newsletter Items.

We hope that you find peace, light and joy during this holiday season.

Cheers,

Kim and The Bakeshop Team
