N.V. Delamotte Champagne Brut (France/ Champagne/ Sparkling White)
One of the most highly revered champagnes in the world is made by the house of Salon, who make a single blanc de blanc cuvee from 100% chardonnay grapes sourced in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The wine is only produced in vintages deemed worthy, and sells for upwards of $500 upon release, but has become increasingly difficult to find in the marketplace. Only 37 vintages of Salon were produced in the 20th century.
What many don’t know is that the grapes grown for Salon in the years deemed not good enough to make the grand cuvee become part of Champagne Delamotte, their next-door neighbor. While the world famous Salon was founded in 1905 Eugène-Aimé Salon, the lesser known Delamotte was actually founded in 1760! The two houses were combined as sister companies in 1989 after they had each been purchased by the Laurent-Perrier group, and both wines are made under the supervision of Didier Depond.
While we do not carry any Salon champagne, alas, we are able to offer bottles of NV Delamotte Champagne Brut. This non-vintage blend adds in pinot noir and pinot meunier to the chardonnay grapes, and has a lilting, elegant style, zesty and fresh with notes of citrus and green apples, which makes it a perfect pairing with our holiday pies. But, after all, champagne does pair well with everything!
The price on this wine is fantastic for the quality. And the best news is that these are .375 ml half-bottle splits,” which make them perfect for days or nights when you don’t want to finish off an entire bottle of champagne, but just need two or three glasses!
